Google on Wednesday celebrated 155th birthday of German physicist Heirich Rudolf Hertz, with GHz-like waves featuring Google Colors, on its homepage. On clicking the image will initiate the Google search for Heirich Rudolf Hertz.

One of the pillars of the “Electromagnetic Theory of Light,” German physicist Heirich Rudolf Hertz is the center of the Google universe today with his own Google Doodle. Hertz was the first physicist to demonstrate the existence of electromagnetic waves. Hertz with his discovery opened the way for the development of radio, television, and radar.

Hertz died at the age of 36. He was diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis, an incurable form of vasculitis that affects the nose, lungs, and kidney, and other organs.

Hertz was recognized posthumously by the International Electrotechnical Commission in 1930 for his contributions in the field of electromagnetics by having the unit of measurement of frequency named hertz. The Hertz doodle, does not have Google letters rather it features an infinite-moving, colorful electromagnetic wave-like diagram.

Did you know that American Internet users spend more time on Facebook than any other site? Not only is it the site with the second-largest U.S. audience, just behind Google, but it far surpasses every other site in the top 10 of most popular websites, according to data from Nielsen, with the average user spending more than 7 hours and 45 minutes each month on the site.

According to this, in 2008 the average user was 33 years of age and with more and more people joining Facebook, the average is now 38. Compared with other social networks, Facebook users are the most engaged. 52% visit Facebook daily, beating out others for daily visitors, such as Twitter (36%), Myspace (7%) and LinkedIn (6%).

No wonder it’s a popular site for marketing and engaging with consumers.
So, what does the average user do on Facebook each day? Here we’ve an infographic by JESS3 – Creative Agency.

Microsoft on Friday announced that it was redesigning the logo of Windows software, making a fundamental change to the iconic four-colour Windows logo users have been used to for 20 years.

Meshing with the Metro design of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8, the new logo is a slightly-angled blue block with a thin white cross in the middle, making it look like a window instead of the four-colour wavy flag in the past, reported Xinhua.

The new logo is designed by Paula Scher from the Pentagram Design Agency, whose notable works include the Citibank logo. The first Windows logo debuted in November 1985. Since then, the logo has gone through several redesigns, which were all based on the design of a four-color wavy flag.

Windows – Timeline

Windows 1.0 -

Few remember the original Windows logo, yet we found it both refreshing and inspiring in relation to the work we have been doing on the Metro style design visuals. Using simple lines and clear straight forward concept, this logo reminded us of what a great and evocative name we have with “windows”.

Windows 3.1 -

For many of us this was the image in our mind when we think of past Windows logos. The now classic window shape and the introduction of the four colors were hallmarks of the Windows brand for many years to come. The introduction of the “waving effect” gives the logo a sense of motion. This logo would be the basis of the Windows versions throughout the 1990s.

Windows XP

The next major incarnation of the logo came with the release of Windows XP. What has come to be known as the “Windows flag” is a cleaner more sophisticated mark than its predecessors. The version that populated the lower left hand corner of Windows PCs next to the word “Start” also gained a sense of materiality (plastic?) and a 3D effect from the rich gradients and shadows.

Windows Vista

The Windows Vista release marked the beginning of the AERO design aesthetic in Windows with a key component of the interface being the “AERO glass” effect. Replacing the green Start button was the round glass-like button with a now flattened version of the “flag” from Windows XP. Internally, this icon became known as the “pearl”. You can see the intricate lighting effects of the faux glass. In many ways signaling just how powerful of a rendering engine the PC had become. This version of the logo was largely unchanged for Windows 7.

Windows 8

Explaining Microsoft’s goal in creating the Windows 8 logo, Moreau wrote on the blog post:

1. We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.

2. It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.

3. Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) announced the launch of its new marketing campaign, “New Dawn New Knights” on Monday. They also unveiled the new and refreshing logo of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mumbai. The new look of the logo was unveiled by the owners of KKR, Shah Rukh, Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta along with the CEO of KKR Venky Mysore.

Discussing the changes in the design and logo, team owner Shah Rukh said, “The golden color was because I like gold and the black has been changed because I was told that it was not lucky. And last year since we couldn’t make it to the last four I can’t even argue with it.” However, taking forward the discussion Shah Rukh said Juhi wanted the clothes to be in pink. “Juhi’s suggestion was to make our clothes into pink and that suggestion may follow if you don’t win the finals this year. And you can imagine Yusuf Pathan in pink dress,” the 46-year-old said.
