Beetel launches Rs 9,999 tablet computer in India
Bharti Enterprises group firm Beetel Teletech today unveiled its tablet PC — Beetel Magiq — priced at Rs 9,999, further heating up the tab market in the country. Beetel Magiq is probably the cheapest tablet PC available in the country today. Last week, Reliance Communications had launched its tablet PC for Rs 12,999.
Bharti’s Beetel Magiq 7-inch tablet comes with Google’s Android 2.2 software, an 8GB memory expandable to 16 GB, 3G and Wi-Fi, a radio and front-and-rear 2-megapixel camera. In Indian rupees, the tablet would cost Rs. 9,999, which may pit the device against smartphones.
“The product has been designed keeping in mind the needs of Indian customers. The tablet is not only about affordability but also about aspirational features, which were earlier available in high-end devices,” Beetel Telech Executive Director and CEO Vinod Sawhny told reporters here.
The Indian market is flooded with tablets and consumers have the option of choosing tablet PCs at various price points.
While bigger brands like Apple’s iPad and Research in Motions’s PlayBook are priced above Rs 25,000, devices from the likes of Olive, Spice and MSI are available at much lower costs.
Since the launch of Apple’s iPad, the tablet market is witnessing huge competition, with new contenders launching their devices.
According to analysts, sales in the tablet PC segment in India are expected to touch one million units over the next 12 months. 3G (high-speed internet services) roll out has also helped in expanding the opportunity, experts say.

Rs 9,999, it around 150 euros.
You can easily find 7 inches tablet with Wifi for 49 euros. Just add a 3g stick at 40 euros and you are far away cheaper. Don’t understand the interest, sorry.
