Twitter suspends @CEOSteveJobs
Twitter has suspended @CEOSteveJobs parody account. The account reportedly had 460,000 followers and over 650 tweets at the time of deletion.
The microblogging site reportedly recieved a complaint from Apple in January in which the company said that the account is in violation of Twitter’s parody account policy as it didn’t clearly state in the account name that it was a parody. Apple argued that this increases the chances of the account being mistaken for a real account, which seemed to be the case, considering the account’s huge number of followers.
According to Twitter’s Parody policy, “The bio should include a statement to distinguish it from the real identity, such as “This is a parody,” “This is a fan page,” “Parody Account,” “Fan Account,” “Role-playing Account,” or “This is not affiliated with…” Also, the username should not be the exact name of the subject of the parody, commentary, or fandom; to make it clearer, you should distinguish the account with a qualifier such as “not,” “fake,” or “fan.”
However, Twitter has still not clearly specified why it has suspended the account.
