World's First Flying Car Cleared for Take Off Next Year
Your dream of a car that runs on road but can fly you out of a traffic jam could soon come true as the regulators in the United States have given approval for a flying car to take-off, classifying it as a Light Sport Aircraft. The dual-purpose car/plane vehicle called ‘the flying car’ has got the waiver on its weight from the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Under FAA rules, the flying car, was required to be strictly under 1,320 pounds in weight. But with the addition of car safety features such as airbags, crumple zones and a safety cage, the vehicle overshot the weight-limit. With the FAA now relaxing the rules for its weight, the runway has been cleared for the flying car, a two-seat named Terrafugia Transition, to take-off next year.
The vehicle can fly about 700 kilometers with a top speed of 160 kilometers an hour, with the pilot needing a license that only requires 20 hours of training. The wings fold in and out in just a couple of minutes and can be parked in an ordinary garage. The first flying car should be delivered to its owner next year, costing $230,000.
